The Picture on the Newsletter Message-ID: <4F8F9DF1C2384A96954E2C264F895E90@bob097db2b79d7> Evidently some people are upset that I included the flyer for the "Rally for Change" sponsored by the Democratic Committee in the E-Newsletter. I understand that they feel that it is a promotion of a political cause, and for that, I apologize. Honestly, I put it in there because I was too lazy to type out everything they are doing at the rally. My laziness has caused even more work! So here it is. At the rally, attendees can register to vote (no matter what party they are or want to be affiliated with), learn about the issues facing our country and city, and enjoy special performances by special guests. I'm sorry if my promotion of a city event was considered to be a declaration of support for a certain candidate, and want to stress that The Fleetwood Neighborhood Association will continue to advertise events that are happening in and around the city when the promotional materials are sent to us. (In other words, I don't go fishing for events to publicize...people can tell me about them or email me and I'll include them). Also as a note - the Fleetwood Neighborhood Association can not and does not financially support any political candidate...nor are we allowed to campaign for any candidate under the FNA umbrella . Again, I'm sorry if the inclusion of the flyer was perceived as such an action. Thanks for the feedback, Susan Granata President -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A Board of 7 people is working very hard to keep events and information flowing throughout the community. We rely on our business partners to sponsor our events, and our community to come out to our events. We need help in planning and implementing, however. I know that everyone is busy, certainly more so now with the economic events that are unfolding. However, taking a few hours out of your day or weekend to help the community goes farther to improve your life and the lives of those around you than picking up the dry-cleaning or other errands that you may be doing on the weekend. Here's how you can help us all: VOLUNTEER! The following duties are needed next weekend: People with Cars, Vans and SUVs: We need help schlepping the Halloween Festival materials from the garage to the street. Loading will take place on Saturday, October 18 from 4pm - 8pm at 131 Villa Street. Can't lift or carry? No problem! We'll do all the lifting and carrying - you just offer your car for storage overnight and driving to Grand Street in the morning...(Schlepping Vehicles need to be at the street location no later than 9:00am for unloading...) People to run the festival: This is our most intense volunteer need. We need help from our community to run the games, crafts, and events during the Festival. It is SO MUCH FUN! Children come in their halloween costumes, they are so excited to be there, and you get to make their day complete by running a game or activity and handing them prizes! (Does it get much better than that??) We have all sorts of games, from cauldron tossing to beanbag throws, and activities like crafts, pony rides, raffles, and more! Can't dedicate 4 hours? no problem! Come for 2 hours and help out - we need you! Hang a flyer, spread the word, pick up the hype! We need help spreading the word. You cannot miss the banner on Grand Street, it's bright orange...but maybe your neighbors haven't been down there this month - Spread the word! A flyer is attached to this email for the festival - print it out - drop it off in your neighbor's mailbox, on their car, whatever suits! Send a Letter! The link on the last email was not correct - I apologize!! Here's the correct link to information about CVS: www.fleetwoodneighbors.org/cvs.php It's easy to download a letter from there, personalize it, and send it to the address listed. Help us help the community - raise your voice! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Mount Vernon Walk-A-Thon Message-ID: <6AA4B49A470D433E918A403B94750EDE@bob097db2b79d7> Hello Neighbors! I am pleased to announce that in cooperation with Mount Vernon Neighbors That Care, Inc, Mount Vernon Neighbors United, the City of Mount Vernon, and the Mount Vernon Educational Foundation, Inc. we are pleased to present the annual Mount Vernon Walk-A-Thon. This event will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 1pm - 6pm. A Four-Mile walk through the city, that starts and ends at City Hall Plaza, the event is designed to bring together neighborhoods and people from all over our city to raise money for charities near and far. The most special aspect of this walk is that walkers and pledgers can choose what charity to raise money for. Some may be walking for their own Neighborhood Associations, some may walk for the Animal Shelter, Youth Organization, or other charitable organization. Some may walk for the Sports or Academic programs. Walkers and Teams choose the organization they would like to support, and go out and walk for it! The Fleetwood Neighborhood Association will be hosting a team for this event! Attached is the brochure and flyer. We are asking all those interested in joining the FNA Team to let Susan know no later than Wednesday, October 22. We have not yet finalized a list of charities to whom we will donate the money to, so any suggestions are welcome, so long as they are a fully registered 501(c)(3) organization and are based in and serve the Mount Vernon population. Some ideas include the Mt. Vernon Animal Shelter, the Mt. Vernon Boys and Girls Club, the Mt. Vernon YMCA, the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Key Club, Mt. Vernon Elks, the list goes on and on. Walkers: If you're interested in walking, please print out the pledge form and drum up some sponsors. Sponsors can pledge as little as $0.25 and as much as $25,000. (or more, but let's not get ahead of ourselves!). Have your sponsors pay you the money upfront! (We have to have the money in hand no later than the 26th ...) Then come to a quick meeting on Thursday, October 23 at 131 Villa Street so we can organize our list of charities, the amount pledged and raised for each charity, and our outfits! Please note, children are welcome to participate! We do require a ratio of 1 supervising adult for 10 children. Pledgers: Can't walk that far or busy that day? No problem! You can sponsor a walker, help spread the word, or even raise the money and turn it in to us, and we'll do the walking for you! You can even come to the event, and help us at our FNA table by talking about the Fleetwood Neighborhood Association, our services, programs, and drumming up more membership. Other ways to help: Busy on the 26th, but free on the 25th? No problem! We'll need help stuffing promotional bags and counting donations at the First United Methodist Church from 10am - 2pm on Saturday, October 25th. Even an hour of your time will be a huge help! This promises to be a fun-filled and inspirational event. A time when everyone from our City is truly working together. I hope the FNA team will be a huge success with a lot of participation!
